The newly designed Cologne main railway station - the "Colonaden". Today's main railway station was built on the former site of the botanical gardens.
Only the large platform hall remains of the new construction of the late 19th century which, with its 225 metres in length, 65 metres in width, and 24 metres in height, demonstrates the technical optimism of the time of construction. There are similarities in the form of the steel construction of the railway station and of Cologne's Gothic Cathedral.
