Soomaa National Park was established on proposal of Estonian Fund for Nature in 1993 in the Southern part of Central-Estonia. Soomaa in Estonian means Land of Bogs, and this 370 sq. km. vast area is especially unique due its interesting hydrological features. The majority of the park is covered by four impressive bogs, with the peat layer in some places reaching up to over seven meters.
